Wiggle Bells Age: three months - two years
Large group time
Originating Idea: The children love to shake things and the younger infants like to kick their legs so I thought it would be a great activity to make some music!
Materials for child and teacher:
Beginning:
Announce that the children are going to have some music and movement time. Move all the children to an open area
Middle:
Show and attach the Velcro bells to the children who don’t have the skill to sit up and grasp the instruments. Give the other instruments to the older children. Play music of different speeds. Slow, fast, singing, instrumental, etc… Let the children shake their instruments and move to the music!
End:
In two minutes we are going to go and have lunch
Earlier children may:
Enjoy just listening to the songs and watching/observing the bells. Let them shake and kick legs.
Later children may:
Want to sing along or wiggle/dance as you are playing the music. Encourage them to use their instruments to the beat.
Follow up ideas: Have different instruments available for the kids to play with
Play music in different languages to expose them to that.
Relates to KDI: Physical Development (moving parts of the body) and Creative Arts (listening to music)
