Dr. Suess book "Ten Apples up on Top"
Wood blocks with Apples on them
Beginning:
Read the book "Ten Apples up on Top"
Middle:
Show the kids the blocks with the pictures of apples on them. Ask them if they can stack the apples and see how many they can stack.
End:
Say "When you are done stacking we are going to write down how many apples you stacked!"
Earlier children may:
Enjoy listening to the song. They may be able to stack only two blocks.
Later children may:
Want to stack as many blocks as possible.
Follow up ideas:
Leave the wooden blocks out so the kids can build when they want to. Leave out the Dr. Suess books and let the kids look at the book.
