Pattern bracelets This fits into the patterns KDI
This activity can be done in small group.
Opening Statement:
I thought that since we like to play with beads, we could make some bracelets and try to make some patterns.
Materials: pipe cleaners, different colored and shaped beads.
Earlier ability: these kids may just put the beads on the pipe cleaners
Middle ability: these children may group colors and/or shapes together
Advanced ability: these children will create patterns alternating colors and shapes appropriately
Scaffoling: early learners - encourage them to find like beads. Comment on what they are making.
middle learners - encourage them to try harder patterns. Comment on what they are making, " I see that you are putting blue beads and then yellow beads.
advanced learners - comment on their creation. Encourage them to try different patterns
Extending activity: Tell the children that if they want to make more patterns that the beads and pipe cleaners will be out at work time and they are free to make more.
